volts and amps

I grew up in a rural area. My elementary school was surrounded by farms.

Our school had signs posted around the fields: NO LIVESTOCK PERMITTED ON PLAYING FIELDS. Those signs were ignored, largely due to the illiteracy of livestock.

One afternoon, after school, some of my classmates stood in front of an electric fence daring each other to touch it.

My father worked with high voltage electrical equipment. That day, when he pulled up in his truck to pick me up from school, he saw the kids standing at the fence and said, "Hey, if they think that's fun, I can hook them up to something that they'll find even more entertaining."
